Duke Huan of Qi went hunting and shot a splendid steed. He sent people to chase after it, yet the steed escaped without a trace. Angered, Duke Huan said, "Is there anyone who can help me capture this steed?" The crowd remained silent. Suddenly, a high-ranking minister dressed in yellow stepped forward and proclaimed that he could assist Duke Huan in capturing the steed. Overjoyed, Duke Huan summoned him before his presence. This minister suggested, "Please dispatch thousands of soldiers to blockade the surrounding mountains, forcing the steed into a situation of nowhere to run." Duke Huan praised his strategy and ordered the feudal lords in charge of the hunting expedition to implement it immediately. As expected, the steed was trapped in the mountains and eventually captured. Duke Huan asked the minister for his name, to which he replied, "My name is Guan Zhong." Duke Huan praised Guan Zhong's intelligence and took great care of him, nurturing and supporting him.
